Itinerary

Day 1
This morning you will depart Accra for a fifty minute flight to Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region. Upon arrival at the Tamale airport, you will be welcomed and greeted with a smile by an Uprise staff member. After leaving the airport, you will stop at local bakery for a quick breakfast before driving two hours into the heart of Mole National Park. After settling into your accommodation, you will embark on the driving safari, in hopes of spotting wildlife. This driving safari gives us the opportunity to go deep into the park where we are lucky to see elephants, baboons, monkeys, buffalos, antelopes, hartebeest, and much more. After a long day of travel and safari, you will settle in for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 2
This morning we will start our walking safari around 6 a.m., which is the best time to spot elephants and birds while enjoying the sunrise. Accompanied by a gun-toting park ranger, you can approach wildlife at safe distances.  If you are lucky you may spot crocodiles around the waterholes. After two hours of walking, you will head back to Mole Motel for breakfast.

This afternoon will include a peaceful canoe safari along the Mole River that will take you to more remote parts of the park. You will later visit the village of Mognori for a guided tour. This tour will give you a clear picture of the ways of life of families in Northern Ghana. You may have the chance to learn traditional customs such as weaving and making shea butter. If he is available, you will meet the traditional chief of the village for a quick handshake before heading back to the hotel.

Day 3
This morning we will have one final walking safari before we head to the airport. After soaking in the last hours with the wildlife, and waving goodbye to the elephants, you will drive to the city of Tamale for souvenir shopping at the Tamale Cultural Center before flying back to Accra.

Packing List

The Uprise team is happy to assist you with your luggage, but feel free to pack light and keep it simple!

  • We highly recommend that you speak with your doctor about about antimalarial medications or any vaccinations that he or she may suggest.
  • If your trip includes a safari, please include darker, more neutral-colored clothing in order to avoid scaring off the animals.
  • Also, please consider culturally appropriate dress. While many cities and beaches in West Africa are more liberal with their dress codes, many people will be offended if you show too much skin. In some communities women should cover their shoulders and knees. Consider packing capri pants, loose-fitting long-sleeved shirts, or scarves to cover your shoulders.
